A dog owner’s responsibility would be to ensure the safety and comfort of their dog, but Wally, a Shar-Pei, was neglected all his life and was mistreated. Rescuers received a phone call about a dog living on a lot. It was Wally, leisurely lying on the floor when the rescuers arrived.
Loreta, one of the rescuers, immediately offered a very hungry Wally some cheeseburgers. But as bad as Wally wanted to devour the food quickly, his face was so swollen that he couldn’t even smell the food nor see it. Loreta, fully gaining Wally’s trust, put a leash on his neck, to which Wally responded by standing up and wagging his tail. It was as though he was excited to wherever they will take him.
Before arriving at the vet, they noticed that Wally was breathing heavily. It was later diagnosed that he has pneumonia. At the vet, they discovered that Wally had a microchip. His owner could be worried about his whereabouts, so they contacted the owner immediately.
The owner told them that this was not the first time Wally ran away from home. Wally lives outside the house all his life, and kids would often throw firecrackers at him, causing him to run away in fear. Just as the rescuers asked if there was any action taken to ensure Wally’s safety, the owner got mad and told them that she doesn’t want that old dog anyway.
It was heartbreaking that Wally, who was a gentle dog, isn’t wanted by his previous owner. His running away was more of a blessing in disguise. Wally can now start receiving affection, care, and attention the gentle dog deserves. Under the supervision of his rescuers, Wally recovered amazingly despite his old age.
A few weeks later, Wally finally found a caring and loving owner. His rescuers came to visit him at his forever home, and they could really see the joy in his eyes as he welcomed them excitedly. Wally even got a girlfriend named Bunny, and together, they make their owner’s lives more meaningful and happy.
