One of the main reasons why most dog owners give up on their dogs is bad behavior. A family in Ohio had seriously considered getting rid of their family dog, Papillon, due to unwanted canine behavior.
According to the family members, the dog became an obsessive chewer of furniture and all sorts of things, which is a concern for a family with little kids. At some point in their lives, they have described Papillon as the main cause of terror inside the house. Fortunately, they didn’t get rid of Papillon right away.
In June 1993, the family’s mom, Mindi, left her baby, Rachel, in the bedroom to take a quick shower. While Mindi was showering, Papillon started barking like crazy. The dog even went inside the shower to “disturb” Mindy. Realizing that the dog won’t stop pestering her, she began to follow Papillon.
Papillon led Mindi to the baby’s crib. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that her baby hadn’t been breathing – her lips have already turned blue! Mindi immediately asked one of her kids to call 911.
Having trained as a medic, Mindi immediately gave Rachel resuscitation. Frightened as she was, Mindi continued to assist the baby in breathing. Thankfully, she managed to do it even before the ambulance arrived.
According to doctors, the baby choked because of some of the food debris that was dislodged in her esophagus. The debris was from the food that she ate a little less than an hour before the incident happened. Because the baby’s digestive system had triggered an anti-peristalsis movement, the food debris went back up to her esophagus, eventually causing the little Rachel to choke.
Fortunately, Mindi was so timely with her intervention, or the baby could have died. But Mindi credits it to the dear family dog, Papillon, whom they thought was a terror, but is actually just a caring family member.
