When you’re a wee pup and you’re just learning the ropes of life, it’s important to have strong observation skills. It literally could save you from unpleasant stuff.
These Golden Retrievers are house buddies. They’re lucky to have each other as Dante, the older dog, served as the younger Odie’s mentor.
On this day, mom would find out that Odie’s observant when she gave the command to shake hands. Dante immediately obeyed, but the excited-and-all-over-the-place Odie didn’t get it.
When mom asked for her slippers, the excited Odie rushed to get a shoe and then ran off with it. Nothing spelled rookie more than hilarious, unfocused energy, and that’s the very description of the young puppy.
Fortunately, mom was in the mood for a little experiment. She called both her fur pets and had them sit side-by-side together. The doggos complied, although the puppy fidgeted.
Mom had Dante make an example. She gave the command, and the older dog responded perfectly. He was given a treat for his obedience.
Then mom tried it on Odie. She gave the command once more, but the pupper just stared. Dante executed the command again, but mom didn’t pay attention to him.
That got the older dog a little miffed because he was doing exactly what he was supposed to do. For some reason, mom wasn’t rewarding him. That was confusing!
After a couple more tries with Dante helping out, Odie was able to finally get the idea. He got the treat, but the excited little pupper zoned in on the tidbit, not the reason behind!
Two weeks later, Odie’s able to execute a simple shake and a high-five. Congratulations, pupper! Thanks to you as well, Dante. You guys made mom happy!
We just hope that by now, you know the difference between slipper and shoe, Odie. Just observe and copy Dante and you’ll be fine!
