For 11 months, Magic lived under the porch of what used to be a very happy home for her. She used to live with her owner who was alone and without a family. Except for her. But then a tragedy happened.
The dog’s owner died and nobody took Magic. She had to fend for herself. Thankfully, the neighbors gave her some food and water once in a while.
But because she was now living alone, she became scared and distant. She would bark at anyone who would come near the property.
When the house was bought by someone, they wanted the dog removed. So they called a dog rescue group to take her away.
With the property owner’s permission, two ladies, JoAnn and Katie went inside the fenced yard to rescue Magic. But, just like with all other humans that she meets, the dog growled and barked at them and would back away every time they got close.
The ladies tried giving her some food but she refused to go near them. She sees them as threats that have invaded her home. Not wanting to further agitate the anxious dog, the two women decided to set a trap. They got a cage and put it inside the yard.
They also hid themselves inside their car. For the next 40 minutes, they waited and watched. The dog walked around the trap refusing to get in. But eventually, the food inside was too enticing and she fell for it.
With the dog now safely inside, they loaded her into their vehicle and brought her to their shelter.
A new family
Although she was safe now, Magic didn’t know it yet. She was still very guarded and anxious. The pup hasn’t felt affection for some time and the rescuers knew that it could be quite a while before she could respond to the love that they were showing her.
She was brought into a foster home where slowly she came out of her shell. She remembered how it was to be loved and started learning how to trust humans again, Not for long, Magic was adopted and is once again happy to be part of a family. And this time, she even has dog siblings to play with.
