Lauryn has been fostering for years, and one of her new fosters is a fearful dog named Iris. When Lauryn first got Iris, she was this scared and sad dog.
She had no idea why Lauryn and her family were gathered around her. She did not understand why they were giving her so much attention. She also does not understand how to act with a family.
When Lauryn brought Iris home, Iris stayed outside for weeks. She never went inside the house. She would hide behind a planter and would peak her head from time to time.
For four weeks, Lauryn kept the door to their house open. This is in case Iris decides to get inside. Iris makes a couple of attempts but never pushes through. She never got inside the house on her own.
Iris also did not understand the concept of walking. Lauryn and her companions would have to carry her during their walks. Lauryn decided that they needed to push Iris to open up.
Lauryn placed blankets in their basement. She wanted Iris to stay there instead of staying outside.
This was a big help. Iris slowly got comfortable staying inside the house. Lauryn also started petting her more.
It was when Lauryn introduced Iris to a dog named Max that she has completely opened up. She has even enjoyed walking on a leash.
After a few weeks, a couple reached out to Lauryn about Iris. Lauryn told them that she received a few applications for her adoption. Lauryn was waiting to find a family who has a playful dog that would help Iris get out of her shell.
The couple has a dog with that description, so they filed for her adoption, which was granted. Iris and her new sibling, Clio, instantly connected.
There were no awkward moments between the Iris and Clio as they played together. Iris even made herself feel at home. That’s the best part- she really is home.
