Meesha and her brother Charlie were just six weeks old when they arrived at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS). Their owners didn’t expect their arrival and couldn’t afford more puppies.
They knew that Meesha and Charlie would be better off with another family, so they surrendered the two. This way, the owners could rest assured that the pups would be getting all the love and care that they needed.
Before they could go to their new homes, the little canines had to be spayed and neutered first. The operation was far from being an enjoyable experience for Meesha, though.
Her anesthesia was wearing off when she woke up. Dazed and disoriented, Meesha began whimpering — she was in an unfamiliar place, and she couldn’t feel anything.
Dennis Moses, a surgical assistant working at BARCS, brought the crying pup to the hallway to cuddle with her and assure her that she would be fine. He rocked Meesha and showered her with sweet kisses, and he even sang to her.
Dennis regularly does this for many of the cats and dogs that pass through the operation room. He explains that the experience of waking up right after surgery is just as scary for animals as it is for humans, so they need all the comfort they could get.
It just happened that a shelter volunteer was walking by at that moment. When she saw the heartwarming encounter, she couldn’t help but take a video of it.
BARCS posted the adorable clip on their Facebook page, where it went viral. So far, it has more than 12 million views and hundreds of thousands of shares.
The video didn’t just result in more Facebook followers for BARCS. More importantly, it also helped them gain more donors, volunteers, and adopters. It’s incredible how a small act of love can have such a significant impact on many animals’ lives!
Everything went well for Meesha, too. She already had a forever family waiting for her as she recovered from her surgery.
They loved how good she was with children, so they didn’t hesitate to fill out the paperwork. Watch Dennis and Meesha in the video below:
