Jenna and Eric Brousseau are grateful they decided to adopt a mixed breed rescue dog named Duke. Who would have thought that this new member of the family will save their 9-week-old baby daughter, Harper, from real danger? It never crossed their mind that Duke will risk his life to repay the love and kindness that the family has given him.
One casual Sunday night, Jenna and Eric were already in bed when they heard an unusual sound coming outside their room. The husband and wife were alarmed when their dog, Duke, came rushing to their bedroom, and hysterically woke them up by shaking them and jumping on their bed. The couple got worried because Duke is mostly obedient and calm, and he would not behave this way if it weren’t something important.
The couple hurriedly checked their daughter’s room and saw that Harper was in an emergency situation. She was not breathing. Eric immediately called an ambulance to rescue their baby. When the paramedics arrived, they quickly revived Harper and brought her to the hospital for further tests.
At the hospital, the doctors were not sure what caused the incident, but they said that there is a possibility of acid reflux. In most cases, the food and liquid inside the stomach leaks back to the esophagus then it blocks the airways. Harper’s breathing probably stopped when air, food, and water blocked her respiratory system.
The Brousseaus firmly believe that Duke was meant to be part of their family. They will be forever thankful they let him in, not just in their home, but in their lives as well. If not for Duke, Eric and Jenna might have lost their beloved daughter.
It is indeed wonderful that Duke is there to save Harper from danger. Amazingly, dogs can sense that something is wrong with their surroundings; their instinct can be so helpful, most especially during emergencies. Some think that it is Duke’s way of telling the family he is thankful that they love him unconditionally.
