The Associated Press previously blogged about a Golden Retriever who became an instant mommy to tiger cubs. Isn’t it fascinating?
We normally see cats and dogs as enemies on cartoons, movies, and sometimes, in real life. But at Caney, Kansas, a dog at a zoo has parented three tiger cubs who were deserted by their mother.
The owner of the zoo, Tom Harvey, said that the mother of the cubs had a problem with them even after giving birth. He noticed that a day after, the tiger mother let the cubs roam around, while they try to get her attention, so they can milk on her, but to no avail. The mother tiger is still cold and aloof.
That’s when Isabella, the golden retriever, came into the picture. It’s a tough decision to let the dog nurse the cubs, but they tried as they have watched a show where a dog has been caring for tiger cubs as well. So he said, they must give it a try for the cubs to survive.
Isabella just recently had her puppies and it is not too long ago when she weaned them from her. So Harvey took this opportunity, to feed the tiger cubs on her. She actually doesn’t know the difference of having the tiger cubs milking on her. He said that the golden retriever licks and let the cubs feed on her and it’s an achievement at that time. It made him think, “The cubs are going to live because of her.”
Harvey’s zoo, the Safari Zoological Park, has been opened since 1989, and they specialize in those wild animals who are at the verge of extinction.
The zoo is home to lions, baboons, lemurs, bears, and other jeopardized classes of animals. These animals are normally seen in the wild, but since Earth is slowly being affected by the recent climate changes, it is slowly changing into a place that they do not know of.
